Penang is considered the culinary capital of Malaysia and nowhere is the diversity of dishes and range of flavours more evident than in its beautiful capital, George Town. You don’t walk its streets – you devour them. Every corner you turn is a new gastronomic adventure, with hawkers selling delicious street food. Start your day with some authentic Malaysian recipe Roti Canai and Teh Tarik, a local breakfast many Penangites love. Take a slow drive along the Street of Harmony, which is bordered by religious landmarks such as Kapitan Keling Mosque (the first Indian-Muslim mosque in Penang) with its domes and minarets; the Sri Mahamariaman Temple devoted to a popular Hindu Goddess; Goddess of Mercy (Kuan Yin) Temple, built in 1800; St. George's Church, oldest Anglican Church (1818) in the Region. Witness the making of Wooden Clogs, commonly known in Penang as “Kak Kiak” in Hokkien, is a traditional footware used daily in the olden days. Next, we will go to taste a variety of the famous traditional Nyonya ‘kuih’ (cakes / savoury or sweet snacks). Go for a hunt at the famous Street Art, as well as enjoy a traditional snack of peanuts candy wrapped with the freshly made poh piah skin. Taste the Penang Cendol, a famous Penang dessert that promises to brighten and refresh your day from the first sip. After dinner, hop on a trishaw for a slow ride through the colourful streets of George Town, passing by some of the beautiful heritage buldings. This “three wheel rickshaw”, unique to this part of the world is locally known as the “King of the Road”. Next, visit a popular local night market. The night market moves to a different location every night, so you will be in for a surprise! You will be able to pick-up some bargains here and sample more local food.

George Town, listed by UNESCO as a world heritage city with its diversified arts & cultures, it is definitely a place not to miss! Visit to the world-renowned Pinang Peranakan Mansion. The Baba & Nyonyas (the Peranakans) was a prominent community of acculturated Chinese unique to this part of the world, the mansion houses over 1,000 pieces of antiques and collectible items of the era on display. Then take a short walk to the colourful ethnic Indian enclave, Little India where wide range of items are sold. Visit the oldest Hindu Temple in Penang, then continue on to a Teochew Temple where ornate rooftops with intricate carving of dragon pillars are found. Get to know the history of Dr Sun Yat-Sen at the SUN YAT-SEN Museum, followed by a fun hunt at Armenian Street to view the famous street arts. Next, head to one of Penang’s Traditional Clan Houses where its building is more than a hundred years with antique statues. End your tour with visit to a chocolate boutique to get some of the popular local products.

Enjoy a scenic drive to the Mainland through one of the world’s longest suspension bridge - the Penang Bridge, to the state of Perak. You will take a short boat ride to the island to see the Orang Utans - face to face. Orang Utan literally means man of the forest and they are among the most intelligent mammals and considered to be endangered.
After that visit, carry on to the Charcoal Factory, established since the 1930s. Learn the interesting process of how mangrove wood are turned into charcoal. This is a place filled with character where you’ll see the preserved techniques of producing charcoal - exactly the same methods used since the start of the factory.

Start the morning with a quiet walk at the Penang Botanic Gardens where you’ll be surrounded by flora and fauna. Enjoy the serenity of the Waterfall Gardens and look out for the long-tailed Macaque monkeys who roam freely in the gardens. The over century-old Penang Botanic Gardens was created by the British in 1884, set in a valley with natural landscaping surrounded by hills and greenery. Next, head to a tropical butterfly paradise located to the north of Penang island. Entopia is the world’s first live tropical butterfly sanctuary and a denizen for small reptiles, ranging from those who fly freely in the sky to the ones who creep stealthily beneath. Here, it is a must to experience nature’s largest classroom and its multi-storey discovery hub.

One of the best ways to explore and discover George Town is by the city’s oldest mode of transportation - the Trishaw. The trishaw was a popular and only mode of transportation in Penang in the olden days. Wind through the narrow streets of George Town where famous heritage landmarks are found. The ride will start from the famous historic Fort Cornwallis, passing by the Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower, going towards the waterfront jetties. Next, take a ride through the bustling and colourful Little India, Penang’s main commercial and banking zone, the St. George’s Church, old Chinese Temples and a number of narrow and quaint streets dotted with heritage boutique hotels and cafes. The ride will end at a world-famous mansion - The Blue Mansion.

Visit the largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia, the Kek Lok Si Temple, also known as the “Temple of Supreme Bliss”. Enjoy a breathtaking sight of the Gigantic Goddess Of Mercy Bronze Statue overlooking the entire temple precinct and its vicinity, then take a stroll up the seven-storey Pagoda which houses over 10,000 Buddha statues. From here, head to the highest peak of Penang, the must-visit Penang Hill, where the oldest British hill station in the region was established. Enjoy a ride on the funicular train up the hill, where you’ll be amazed by the magnificent panoramic view of George Town and the Mainland. While you’re at it, try spotting the two Penang Bridges! Stock up on your favorite local goodies at the Coffee Tree before heading back.

George Town, the capital of Penang and named after King George III of England, is an interesting blend of old and new. It is worth to note that Penang has one of the largest collections of British colonial buildings in Southeast Asia.
Visit Wat Chayamangkalaram (Reclining Buddha Temple) and Dharmikarama Burmese Temple where you’ll see the famous Golden Reclining Buddha statue and be awed by the intricate architecture of both temples. Next, be taken back in time to Penang’s colonial past at the Colonial Penang Museum and get a glimpse of both the British Administrators and wealthy merchants’ lifestyle in Penang. Stop for a little retail therapy of local products at the Cocoa Boutique before heading down town for a tour of the heritage zone filled with old colonial buildings, and where the famous historic Fort Cornwallis is situated. Be sure to capture as much as you can when you break for a ‘photo stop’! The fort was built in the late 18th century by the British East India Company and to date, its old structure and cannons are still intact. Continue on past the Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower and proceed to the waterfront where you’ll get a chance to walk along the Clan Jetty, where houses built on stilts stand till today, and is still home to many. After this, we’ll take a slow drive through the much talked about Street Of Harmony, where houses of worship for the four main religions are located on the same street, namely, the St.

Penang or “Pulau Pinang” which means "Island of Betelnut Palms" - was once a pirates' hideout. It came under British control in 1786. History has it that Captain Francis Light loaded the cannons with silver coins and fired into the thick undergrowth and the locals scrambled to recover them - thus clearing the area for settlement. Born as a crossroads for traders from Arab to Europe, India to China and nearby islanders, Penang is today a mini Asia in a nutshell! The island still retains its natural charm with quiet sunkissed beaches along the famed Batu Ferringhi strip. Witness the local Traditional Art of fabric making with the use of wax and dyes.
